Kurt Weill (1900–1950) war einer der innovativsten Komponisten des 20. Jahrhunderts und in jedem Genre unterwegs und stilbildend – vom Kunstlied, über Oper, Jazz, Chanson, Ballett- und Kammermusik bis hin zum Musical. Julie Wolff Gesang), Judith Kessler (Texte), Jotham Bleiberg (Trompete) und Max Doehlemann (Flügel) begleiten den Sohn eines jüdischen Kantors aus Dessau und seine Frau Lotte Lenya von seinen ersten spektakulären Erfolgen in Berlin mit der »Dreigroschenoper« oder »Happy End« über den Exilort Paris und die »Sieben Todsünden« bis in seine amerikanische Wahlheimat und an den Broadway zur »American Opera«.
